Wood Betony is a tough and versatile plant that grows as a compact clump and works beautifully planted en mass or positioned in the front of a border. In the Middle Ages Wood Betony was believed to possess magical powers and was worn as a woven armband and planted in churchyards to ward off evil spirits and was even used as a cure for drunkenness. Betony is a lovely low spreading ground cover that, when in flower, provides nectar for bees, butterflies and beneficial insects.
