White Currant
Currants are an old fashioned fruit, being tart and refreshing rather than sweet and succulent. They make wonderful piquant sauces and jellies and add a sophisticated contrast to other flavours when scattered through fruit salads or over cakes. Red and white currants are both derived from the same two species, however the pearly white currants are known as being sweeter than the red and are produced in long threads during summer.
How to grow
Hardy and easy to grow, plant in an enriched soil and water regularly. Protect from frost which may otherwise reduce yield. Prune annually.
