Sweet Pea 'Blue Ripple'

The Sweet Pea ‘Blue Ripple’ is a showstopper that combines old-world charm with captivating beauty. Its unique bicoloured blooms feature soft ivory petals adorned with delicate ripples and streaks of deep indigo blue, creating a truly artistic effect. As a classic climbing annual, this variety will quickly reach up to 2-3 metres, perfect for adding height and colour to trellises, fences, or arches. Famed not just for its striking appearance but also its heavenly fragrance, Blue Ripple fills your garden with a sweet, nostalgic scent reminiscent of cottage gardens. A prolific bloomer, it flowers generously through late spring and summer, bringing months of colour and delight. For best results, sow in autumn or early spring in a sunny position with rich, well-drained soil. Regular deadheading will encourage continued flowering and ensure your garden remains vibrant. Whether for the garden, a vase, or as a thoughtful gift, Sweet Pea ‘Blue Ripple’ is a timeless favourite.
How to grow

Sweet Peas prefers a sunny open position in the garden in a soil enriched with aged compost and decomposed manure. Ideally, soils should have a pH around 7 or above for optimal growth as they dislike acidic soils. Sweet Peas attach readily to any open structure that they can get their tendrils around, from simple wire fencing, to cane tepees and elaborate arbours and lattice work. It is important to set up any support before sowing or transplanting so as to avoid damaging the young seedlings as they establish. Sow seed either insitu, or in trays for transplanting. Direct sowing works very well for spring and summer sowings, while indoor sowing is best in autumn. Protect young seedlings from snails, especially during the cooler months. As they begin to flower, it is important to water regularly during dry periods and pick the flowers to prolong flowering. Note: Sweet Peas are not edible. All parts are poisonous if consumed.
