Swamp White Oak

Quercus bicolor

Despite the name, the Swamp White Oak also grows well in drier Australian gardens. A generous and deep shade is the result of the thick broad fire-retardant foliage, which is glossy on top with a silvery-white sheen underneath. Autumn colour is usually yellow with flushes of reddish-purple. Slow growth rate.

Swamp White Oak

Despite the name, the Swamp White Oak not only thrives in moist, lowland sites, but also grows well in drier Australian conditions. A generally durable and long-lived tree that once established can be difficult to transplant. The broad, rounded crown creates a generous and deep shade with its thick fire-retardant foliage, shiny green and glossy on top and silvery-white underneath. Autumn colour is usually yellow with flushes of reddish-purple. A fine specimen or street tree that is adaptable to both dry and wet positions. Slow growth rate.
How to grow

Plant in full sun, copes with inundation, low oxygen waterlogged soils as well as dry conditions. Not suitable for alkaline ares with pH >5.9.
