Strawberry 'Ruegen'
A German heirloom alpine strawberry that is a parent to both many alpine and modern strawberries because of its intense flavour. With small red fruit, what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for with its rich and aromatic flavour.
How to grow
Alpine strawberries are easy to grow and do not spread by runners. Fertilise with compost and blood and bone each year. Makes a wonderful, fruiting ground cover. Plant in a mound to improve drainage and water regularly, especially during the growing and fruiting months. Prefers part shade or protection from the hot afternoon sun.
