Sedum 'Purple Emperor'

Hylotelephium telephium 'Purple Emperor'

With distinctive fleshy deep purple leaves on dark red stems and clusters of rosy pink late summer flowers, this compact sedum makes an eye-catching display in any garden or vase. This variety takes on wonderful russet colours during autumn, when the pink flowerheads fade to reddish-brown, providing continued interest through winter. A wonderful complement to grasses, best planted in large drifts for dramatic effect.

Sedum 'Purple Emperor'

Bee and butterfly friendly. Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
How to grow

Performs best in full sun and sandy to gravelly well-drained soils of moderate to low fertility as rich soil and shade may result in weak, floppy growth. Not suitable for water-logged areas. Appealing, russet coloured, dead inflorescences should be left to enjoy over winter and cut back in spring when new growth appears from basal rosettes. Propagate by division in spring, detached leaves can also be rooted in soil to form new plants. Extremely drought tolerant, easy care plant suitable for hot, dry and coastal conditions.
