Midyim Berry
A native plant and a food of First Nations people, Midyim Berry is the quintessential edible Aussie plant. Cultivate as a low-growing hedge and prune as you would a box hedge, or plant in the garden as a decorative shrub. The delicate summer berries are sweet and tangy, the new leaves are burgundy coloured and the spring flowers appear as small white stars. Growing in full sun or part shade, once established, this hardy Aussie will take everything nature throws at it.
How to grow
A low-maintenance shrub, while Midyim berry is tolerant of a range of soils, improve with compost prior to planting for optimal growth. Plant in a free-draining soil and water regularly during establishment. Prune after fruiting in autumn to maintain a compact habit. An annual application of compost will help improve the soil and keep plants healthy.
