Holm Oak
Unlike traditional English Oaks, the evergreen Mediterranean Holm Oak will thrive in our dry, arid climate. The dense canopy is formed of leathery dark-green leaves with toothed margins; a shape reminiscent of holly leaves. The gray bark is lightly fissured, with branches beneath its dense foliage often extending near the ground. Can be kept trimmed to 5x3m for a drought-tolerant green screen. Also resistant to salt-spray, it is ideal as a specimen, hedge or windbreak in coastal areas. A potential host of truffles. Slow growth rate.
How to grow
Plant in full sun or part shade, prefers rich, moist fertile soil. Salt-spray and drought tolerant once established. Clips well as an evergreen hedge or coastal screen.
