Hazelnut 'Ennis'
The most popular variety of hazelnut for commercial orchardists and home gardeners, ‘Ennis’ produces an abundant crop of very large nuts. Vigorous and easy to grow, plant with ‘Butler’, ‘Lewis’ or ‘Hall’s Giant’ for successful cross-pollination.
How to grow
A popular nut tree for home gardeners because of their size and versatility. Flowering in winter, they add interest to the garden when many other trees are dormant. More than one tree is required for pollination and all Diggers Hazelnuts are selected to cross pollinate in your garden. Low chill varieties, they still need a minimum of around 1000 hours chill to successfully set nuts. Trees start to set a small crop in around 4-5 years, with maximum production in around 7-8 years.
