Euphorbia Amygdaloides 'Purpurea'

Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Purpurea'

Spreading by underground runners this highly ornamental purple wood spurge forms a neat weed-smothering carpet that is easily contained. Dark purple foliage contrasts superbly with its acid green flowers from spring and through summer. A low-maintenance ground cover and living mulch that will tie together burgundy foliaged shrubs and flowers.

Euphorbia Amygdaloides 'Purpurea'

This unusual burgundy euphorbia is a sophisticated addition to the garden with its velvety purple foliage and vibrant lime green bracts. Use as a contrast to green, grey or variegated foliage, or blend it with other bronze foliage to create a striking planting combination. Adaptable to many positions and conditions, it is a versatile and useful option as a bridging plant between sun and shade, though colour will be strongest in a sunny position.
How to grow

Plant in full sun, preferably in free-draining soil of moderate to low fertility but adaptable to a wide range of conditions. Extremely drought and heat tolerant, euphorbias cope with coastal conditions and moderate frost. Occasional water over extended dry periods will improve plant performance. Prune off spent flower stalks and damaged foliage to ground level to allow for new growth once flowering ends. Always wear gloves and avoid the sap when cutting or handling to prevent irritation to the skin and eyes. Readily self-seeds.
