Empress Tree
This deciduous, fast growing tree produces large clusters of lavender coloured, sweetly scented, fox glove-like flowers which appear in Spring and beautiful heart shaped leaves. This stunning tree can be grown for either its foliage, flowers or both. To encourage the plant to produce giant, tropical like leaves and no flowers prune hard down to within 5-8cm of ground level in the early spring, just before the growth begins. If you are growing it for flowers, then the best time to prune it is immediately after flowering.
How to grow
Drought tolerant and frost hardy. This fast growing feature tree is best suited to large yards and grown away from buildings. Protect young trees from frost. Paulownia may be potentially invasive in some environments so should not be planted near bushland or other sensitive areas.
