Cranberry
This high chill, large-fruited variety from North America is high in vitamin C and antioxidants. Traditionally found in open bogs and swamps, cranberries love a moist position in full sun. A wiry ground cover with pale pink flowers followed by wine-red berries. Plants reach full production in 3 - 5 years.
How to grow
Grow in full sun or part shade in a very moist soil. Slow to fruit, plants reach full production in 5 years, but continue to produce for almost 100 years! Cranberries dislike root disturbance and send out ground hugging runners before sending their growth upward for easy harvest. Cranberries prefer an acidic soil with a pH 4-5.5. Note: Plants require a minimum of 1000 hours (approximately one month) below 7 degrees C to set fruit.
