Cabbage 'Violaceo di Verona'
A Savoy cabbage that is prized for its small to medium-sized heads with tightly packed, deep purple leaves. This cabbage is known for its sweet and tender flavour, making it a popular choice for salads, coleslaws, and even pickling. It's valued not only for its taste but also for its vibrant colour, adding visual appeal to dishes.
Greens in the cabbage family need rich soil with some lime for a pH of about 7.5 and adequate water so the growth is never checked. A good cover of mulch will insulate them from hot, dry spells of weather. Their most damaging pest are the caterpillars of the white cabbage butterfly. Dipel, pyrethrum and netting are all effective organic controls for these voracious pests.
