Bur Oak
A superb summer shade tree and architectural feature in winter, the Bur Oak develops a massive trunk up to 3m in diameter and a broad horizontal branching structure that is equally impressive in leaf or in dormancy. Like most oaks, the Bur Oak is a very long lived species, commonly reaching 200-300 years old, with some known specimens living to 400 years. Plant one today for the enjoyment of many future generations. Bur Oaks are slow to develop as young trees but growth rate improves once established.
How to grow
Plant in full sun, prefers well drained, loamy soil, but also tolerates sandy, wet, and clay soils. Site in an open position where the broad, spreading canopy can develop.
