Anemone ‘Frilly Knickers’
Its compact, upright habit makes it perfect for borders, cottage gardens, or containers, and it pairs beautifully with grasses and late-season perennials. With its strong stems and robust growth, ‘Frilly Knickers’ makes a wonderful cut flower, bringing elegance indoors.
Anemone ‘Frilly Knickers’ thrives in full sun to part shade, preferring morning sun and some afternoon protection in hotter climates. It grows best in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter and can tolerate heavier soils if improved with compost. For best results, plant in autumn or early spring, spacing plants 40–50cm apart to allow good airflow and healthy growth.
Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells, though once established, it can tolerate short periods of drought. Apply a slow-release organic fertiliser in spring and top-dress with compost to encourage vigorous flowering. After blooming, remove spent flower stems to keep the plant looking tidy, and in late winter, cut back old foliage to promote fresh growth. Anemones are generally pest-free but may attract aphids—good air circulation will help prevent mildew. In frost-prone areas, a layer of mulch in winter can provide extra protection.
This low-maintenance perennial pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses, Salvias, Echinacea’s, and Sedums, creating a soft, naturalistic display. With its graceful habit, extended bloom time, and effortless charm, Anemone ‘Frilly Knickers’ is a standout choice for any garden.
