Agastache 'Morello'

Drenched in deep berry tones, Agastache ‘Morello’ is a show-stopper in the garden, drawing in bees, butterflies, and beneficial pollinators with its nectar-rich flowers. Towering upright with spires of dusky burgundy-wine blooms, this hardy perennial provides months of colour, thriving through summer and into autumn.

Not just a feast for the eyes, ‘Morello’ also boasts anise-scented foliage, adding a sensory delight to your garden. Perfect for dry, sun-drenched spots, this drought-tolerant beauty thrives in well-drained soil and is resistant to pests and disease. Whether in a cottage garden, mixed border, or wildlife haven, it delivers bold colour, fragrance, and pollinator power!

How to grow

Agastache ‘Morello’ thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it perfect for dry gardens, borders, and containers. It prefers light, free-draining soils such as loam, sand, or gravel, and struggles in heavy, waterlogged conditions. If your soil is too dense, improve drainage by adding compost or grit. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant, requiring only occasional deep watering during extended dry spells. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it’s best to let the soil dry out between waterings.

This low-maintenance perennial does not need heavy feeding, as too much fertiliser can cause leggy growth. A light application of compost in spring is enough to keep it thriving. Regular deadheading will encourage continuous flowering, and at the end of the season, you can cut back spent stems in late autumn or early spring to promote fresh new growth. Agastache ‘Morello’ is naturally resistant to most pests and diseases, though occasional aphids may appear—these can be easily removed by hosing them off or encouraging beneficial insects.

Hardy in most climates, this perennial can tolerate light frosts, though a layer of mulch around the base in winter will help protect the roots in colder regions. Agastache ‘Morello’ also makes a great companion plant for echinacea, salvia, rudbeckia, and ornamental grasses, creating a stunning, bee-friendly display.
