Rhubarb 'Mount Tamborine'

Originally a Queensland market garden variety from the Mt Tamborine region. Abandoned by the supermarkets as their shelves can't accommodate the large stems! This is the variety to grow if you want to win the `best in show' at your local fete. The ruby-red stems colour all the way into the leaf veins.
How to grow

Grown for its edible stems, the leaves themselves are inedible due to their high concentration of Oxalic Acid. Growing from crowns, plants die back in winter, before sprouting again in spring. To harvest, rip stems down and to the side rather than cutting. Apply Ocean Brew fortnightly during early spring to encourage healthy new growth. Grow in full sun however In hotter regions plants will benefit from protection from afternoon heat. Remove flower stalks as they emerge to conserve plants energy. Allow plant to establish for 2 years before harvesting. Drought tolerant but benefits from seasonal watering.
